You want to join a cooking club.

Parte 1: unos 3 minutos

Word-level writing

You are joining a cooking club. You have five messages from a member of the club. Write short answers (1–5 words) to each message.

Ver respuestas modelo

1. Spanish omelette.

2. On Sunday evenings.

3. My flatmate, Iker.

4. At the local market.

5. Pasta with vegetables.

Parte 2: unos 7 minutos

Short text writing

You are a new member of the cooking club. Fill in the form. Write in sentences. Use 20–30 words.

Please tell us why you want to join the club.

Ver respuesta modelo

I want to join because I live alone and I always cook the same things. I'd like to learn new recipes and meet people who enjoy food.

Parte 3: unos 10 minutos

Social media responses

You are talking to other members of the cooking club in a chat room. Answer their questions. Write 30–40 words for each answer.

1Welcome! What kind of dishes would you like to learn to cook, and why?

Ver respuesta modelo

I'd love to learn to cook Japanese food, especially ramen and sushi. I tried them on holiday last year and I've never found a restaurant near my home that makes them as well.

2We're planning a dinner for all members. Where do you think we should have it?

Ver respuesta modelo

I think we should have it at the community centre, because it has a big kitchen and enough tables for everyone. It's also near the metro, so it's easy for people to get there.

3Some members think we should meet online to save time. What do you think?

Ver respuesta modelo

I understand that online meetings are convenient, but cooking is about tasting and sharing. I'd prefer to meet in person at least twice a month and use the chat for questions.

Parte 4: unos 30 minutos

Formal and informal writing

You receive this email from the club manager: “From next month, our classes will move from Saturday mornings to Thursday evenings, and the monthly fee will go up from 30 to 40 euros. We hope this change does not cause any problems.”

Correo informal

Write an email to your friend, who is also a member. Write about your feelings and what you are going to do. Write about 50 words.

Hi Ane,

Have you seen the email from the club? I can't believe they're moving the classes to Thursday evenings! I work late on Thursdays, so I'll miss them. And ten euros more a month! I'm going to complain to the manager. Shall we look for another club?

Xabi

Correo formal

Write an email to the manager. Write about your feelings and what you think the club should do. Write 120–150 words.

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing about the changes to the cooking classes that you announced last week. I have been a member of the club for over a year, and I am disappointed by both decisions.

Firstly, many members work or study on Thursday evenings, so moving the classes will make it impossible for us to attend. Saturday mornings were ideal because people had more free time and could stay longer.

Secondly, an increase of ten euros a month is significant, especially for students. I understand that costs have risen, but I would appreciate an explanation of why the increase is so large.

I would like to suggest keeping at least one Saturday group, or offering a discount to members who have been in the club for more than a year.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours faithfully,

Xabier Etxeberria

  • ¿Usas conectores para unir ideas (because, however, so, firstly)?
